The Association
Who are we? The Alliance of Shukokai Karate was formed by three senior Dan grades, all from a Shukokai tradition, who felt that the style was losing its roots. After much deliberation, the three decided on a new path. In essence this would be a tightly-bonded (although loose) alliance that would enable them to grow their skills in an un-restricted manner, thus A.S.K. was born.
We are members of the Federation of English Karate Organisations and as such are affiliated to the major governing body where English Karate is concerned. Our instructors are all fully registered and certificated. FEKO are, in turn, affiliated to Karate England, who are the only Karate Governing Body recognised by Sport England.
The aims of the group is to seek out all that is best in Shukokai Karate, to follow the world's best instructors when the chance arises, to develop along traditional lines and to teach each other. There will be no chief instructor as such, all three will be equal and decide the solutions to day to day issues as they arise. We uphold all the traditional Shukokai principles and aim to keep our Kata traditional; we appreciate slight deviation of combinations within Kata between different groups and can tolerate this.
The founder clubs are Dragon Karate Academy (Prestwich), Rochdale Shukokai and Sutemi Shukokai Karate Ryu (Bury).
The instructors are (in alphabetical order) - George Campbell (7th Dan), Adrian Coan (5th Dan), and Stewart Procter (6th Dan).
It is essential that our members receive more benefits than before - not less. With this in mind they will continue to enjoy the existing benefits but we will strive for ways of improving the privileges open to them.
The Alliance of Shukokai Karate can be contacted via email on enquiry@shukokai.info or contact our Association Secretary on 01204 707238.
Amongst our credentials we are able to boast two senior instructors who are City & Guilds certificated to assess to NVQ levels II and III, not many associations can profess to such an in-depth quality of upper end instruction, yet between our three most senior instructors we can boast an impressive 100 years joint instructional experience.
The mission of the Alliance of Shukokai Karate is to engender martial artists with a spirit of mutual respect and purpose for all people regardless of age, sex, colour or creed.
To host courses and seminars to provide expert instruction to all members.
To have a positive impact on club members by teaching them about the values of respect, courtesy and the self-confidence that comes from knowing how to protect oneself.
To provide a fair promotion system for all martial artists.
To be an organisation that is free of politics and egos.
To provide inspiration of personal excellence through our example as Black Belts both in and out of the dojo.
