Dragon Karate Academy

The process of learning karate is very structured and worked in such a way that each studant is taken on their own individual abilities taking into account age, fitness, ability etc. obviously the more time you spend training and working at the dojo the more understanding you will gain and the better you techniques, fitness and ability will become.

The DKA grading sylabus is very easy to follow. From starting to train at the dojo you will be introduced to the basics of Karate-do. After an intial 4 week programme you will be graded, and you will gain your first belt (kyu). After this point the training becomes progressivly harder and more complex. Up to senior Kyu grades you can grade roughly every 3 months if you apply yourself and train twice a week for around two hours per night.

To give you an idea of what is achievable, a dedicated student can attain their 1st Dan grade in around 4 years .
Once a student has achieved their black belt (1st Dan) they will have to train for 24 months before taking their 2nd Dan and 36 months before taking their 3rd Dan. Any Dan grades from 4th upwards are awarded to the student of the martial arts by the govourning association. 4th Dan status will take 4 years to achieve from gaining your 3rd Dan, this being subject to fullfilling certain criteria.

Without getting ahead of ourselves that is a long way off. The first 9 grades are detailed below.....

9th Kyu - red belt
8th Kyu - Yellow belt
7th Kyu - Orange belt
6th Kyu - Green belt
5th Kyu - Blue belt
4th Kyu - Purple belt
